Set up your networking profile

Written by Customer Success

Your networking profile holds your interests, introduction and availability. Brella uses it to match you with other attendees. You set it up when you join the event, or later if you skipped it.

Where to find it

  • When you join: after Personal information, the step Set up your event profile opens with Get started.

  • Later, if you skipped: Networking > Start networking, or People > Attendees > Get started. Start networking also appears on every attendee's profile and on the Home card "“Hey, I’d like to meet.”".

  • To redo it: select your profile picture, then Start join process again under Event settings.

The steps are the same in the mobile app and the web app.

Set up your profile

  1. On Set up your event profile, select Get started. The screen says it takes 1-2 minutes.

  2. Personalize your profile (shown at some events): choose your persona, industry and function for this event, or answer the organizer's questions.

  3. Select your interests: pick the topics you want to meet about. For interests with several goals, choose the goals, for example "Network about this". Use Search by interest to find a topic. You need at least one.

  4. Tell others about yourself: write your introduction, which is required, and choose where you operate under Where do you operate?.

  5. Choose days when you're free to network (multi-day events with meeting slots): choose at least one day. You can block specific times later.

  6. Select Join the event, or Continue if the event has no days step. The app opens the event.

The Set up your event profile step with the 1-2 min estimate, Get started and I'll do it later (needs-data: an account that has not finished joining the demo event)

The number of steps varies: the organizer decides whether identity questions and interests are part of the event, and single-day events skip the availability step. A progress bar shows where you are.

Skip for now

If the organizer allows it, I'll do it later appears next to Get started. Selecting it asks "Skip networking?": "You won't be able to chat or schedule meetings yet." In the mobile app, choose Skip for now to enter the event without a networking profile, or Continue setup. In the web app, your browser shows the question in its own dialog; confirm it to skip, or cancel to continue setup.

Without a networking profile:

  • People has no Your matches tab and shows "Get your first matches" with Get started.

  • Profiles show Start networking instead of Chat and Suggest meeting.

  • Networking shows your profile card with Start networking.

  • The Home screen shows the card "“Hey, I’d like to meet.”" instead of networking picks, and the QR scanner reads "You haven’t enabled matchmaking yet".

Change your profile later

Select your profile picture, then under Event settings:

  • Edit event information: your introduction and the identity answers.

  • Edit my interests: interests and goals. See Change your interests.

  • Edit my availability: the times you don't want meetings. See Set your networking availability.

  • Start join process again: runs the steps again from the start.

Good to know

  • You only see the networking steps if networking is on for your ticket. If it is off, you join without them and can't set up a profile.

  • At some events the join flow has no networking steps. You then set up your profile from Networking > Start networking once inside the event.

  • If the organizer booked meetings for you, a last step Your pre-booked meetings lists them, and the step before it reads Continue. Select Join the event there. See Meetings arranged by your organizer.
