Push notifications tell you about meeting requests, chat messages, upcoming sessions and announcements. Turn them on under Account > Notifications, in the mobile app or in the web app.

Where to find it

Select your profile picture at the top right, then Notifications under Account settings. The row reads You are not receiving notifications when something is off. The path is the same in the mobile app and the web app.

Turn notifications on

  1. Open Notifications.

  2. If the screen shows Enable Push Notifications, select Enable and allow notifications in the prompt from your phone or browser. The app shows Push notifications enabled!.

  3. If the screen shows the Subscribe to notifications switch, turn it on.

The app also asks when you open an event's Home screen while notifications are off. The sheet Get alerted when ... lists what you get; select Enable notifications and allow the prompt, and the app shows You are subscribed!. Either button hides the sheet for 3 days.

Mobile app: if you declined the permission earlier, Enable opens your phone's settings so you can allow it there. Adjust preferences opens the same settings.

Web app: notifications are browser notifications for the web app's address. The browser must allow them. Until it does, Notifications shows only Enable Push Notifications and Show status; the Subscribe to notifications switch appears after you allow notifications. The web app has no Adjust preferences. On iPhone and iPad, they only work after you add the web app to your Home Screen (Share > Add to Home Screen) and open it from there.

Turn notifications off

Open Notifications and turn off Subscribe to notifications. You keep receiving everything in the app; only the pushes stop. Logging out also stops notifications to that device until you sign in again.

What Brella sends

  • Meetings: a new meeting or chat request, and when someone accepts, declines, cancels or reschedules a meeting. Group meetings and meetings arranged by the organizer have their own messages, for example An admin arranged a meeting for you with <name>.

  • Meeting reminders: Meeting in 5 minutes with <name> or You have a group meeting in 5 minutes.

  • Chat: a new message, headed with the sender's first name. In the mobile app no notification is shown for the chat you have open.

  • Sessions: a reminder 5 minutes before a session you bookmarked starts, with its location and time.

  • Session registrations: Your RSVP confirmed or Your RSVP not confirmed when the organizer decides on your request for a seat, and A seat opened up when you get a seat from the waitlist. The notification opens the session. See Reserve a seat in a session.

  • Announcements: messages from the organizer. They are also listed under Activity on the Home screen. See Get event announcements.

  • People: <name> just joined the event. when a registrant you bookmarked before they joined the event joins.

  • Networking access: when the organizer turns networking on or off for your account.

  • Pitch reels: Your video has been approved and is now live. or Your video was not approved.

  • Reminders from the organizer: <event name> is coming soon! and You have unread notifications. Make sure you don't miss any meetings!

Good to know

  • Notifications are per device. Turn them on on each phone or browser you use.

  • The app has no settings for email notifications or for single events. Subscribe to notifications covers every event on this device.

  • The web app loads its notification service from cdn.onesignal.com. Ad or content blockers can stop it; pause them for the web app's address.

  • Notification sounds and banners are controlled by your phone or browser, not by Brella.
