Announcements, stories and Activity

Written by Customer Success

The organizer reaches you in two ways on the Home screen: stories in the row at the top, and announcements. Announcements arrive as push notifications and are kept under Announcements and Activity. A new announcement also shows under Spotlight for 10 minutes.

Where to find it

On the event's Home screen, in the mobile app and the web app:

  • Stories are the round bubbles at the top. The first bubble, Announcements, holds every announcement sent to you.

  • Activity is the first tile under your profile, next to Event info and Map when the event has them. It opens Activity history.

  • Spotlight, further down the Home screen, shows a new announcement for 10 minutes after the organizer sends it.

Stories

A story is a short slide with text or an image, grouped under a name set by the organizer.

  1. Select a bubble. It opens at the first story you have not seen. Each story plays for 10 seconds and moves to the next one. After the last story, the next bubble opens or the screen closes.

  2. Tap the right side to skip ahead, the left side to go back. Press and hold to pause. In the web app at 1024 px and wider, you can also use the arrows.

  3. If the story has a button at the bottom (Visit link unless the organizer named it), select it. Links to a page in the app open that page. Other links open in the in-app browser. An sms: link opens your messages app.

  4. If the story belongs to a sponsor, select its name at the top to open the sponsor's booth.

A bubble has a colored ring until you have seen every story in it. Fully seen bubbles move to the end of the row. Stories can be scheduled, so a bubble can appear or disappear during the event.

Announcements

Announcements are messages from the organizer.

  • Push notification: the event name as the title, then the announcement's heading and text. In the mobile app, select it to open the event and read the message. If the message contains a link, select Visit link to open it, or Dismiss. In the web app, selecting it opens the event.

  • Announcements bubble: all announcements sent to you, as stories. The bubble opens at the first announcement you have not seen.

  • Spotlight: for 10 minutes after the organizer sends an announcement, the Home screen shows it under Spotlight with "New announcement arrived from the event organizer!". Select it to read it as a story. In the web app at 1024 px and wider, it also appears under Spotlight in the right sidebar.

  • Activity history: announcements that were sent to you as push notifications. Select one to read it as a story.

  • Some announcements also arrive as an email, when the organizer chose to send one.

To receive the push notifications, turn notifications on. See Get event announcements.

Activity

Activity history lists the push notifications Brella sent you for this event, newest first, up to the 50 most recent:

  • announcements, which open as a story

  • meeting requests, acceptances, declines, cancellations and reschedules, which open the meeting chat (a group meeting request opens the group meeting)

  • "<name> just joined the event." for people you asked to be notified about, which opens their profile

  • session seat request and waitlist updates ("Your RSVP confirmed", "Your RSVP not confirmed", "A seat opened up"), which open the session

  • pitch reel video status updates

Select the refresh icon at the top to reload the list. The badge on the Activity tile counts entries you have not opened on this device. Opening and closing Activity history marks all listed entries as read.

Good to know

  • The organizer can limit a story or an announcement to selected lists. What you see can differ from what another attendee sees.

  • An announcement appears in Activity only if Brella sent you its push notification. In the web app, Brella sends push notifications only after you allow them in your browser. The Announcements bubble always has every announcement sent to you.

  • Read state in Activity is stored on the device. Your phone and your browser can show different badge counts. Seen state for stories and announcements is stored on your account and is the same on every device.

  • Pull down on the Home screen to reload stories, announcements, Spotlight and Activity. In the web app, reload the page.

  • The stories row is hidden when there is nothing to show.
