Meeting and chat notifications

Brella notifies you about meeting requests, answers, changes and chat messages with a push notification and, for meeting changes, an email. Everything also appears in the app under Networking.

Where to find it

  • In the app: the Networking tab (left menu in the web app) shows a badge with your unread messages and incoming meeting requests. Requests are under Meeting requests, conversations under Chats. The Activity block on the home page lists past notifications.

  • Notification settings: Account > Notifications. On the web app the address ends in /account/notifications.

Group meetings use the same pattern with "group meeting" in the text, for example Group meeting request from <name> and You have a group meeting in 5 minutes. The email subjects read "Group meeting scheduled with <name>" and "<name> invited you to a group meeting".

If the organizer named the table, the accepted notification shows the name before the table, for example "VIP, Table 3", or only the name when the organizer hides the number.

Selecting a push notification opens the meeting chat.

Turn notifications on or off

  1. Open Account > Notifications.

  2. If the screen shows Enable Push Notifications, select Enable and allow notifications when the app or the browser asks.

  3. Use the Subscribe to notifications switch to turn Brella notifications on or off.

Mobile app only: Adjust preferences opens your phone's notification settings for the app.

Web app: notifications are browser notifications. The browser must allow them for the web app. Until it does, the screen shows only Enable Push Notifications and Show status; the Subscribe to notifications switch appears after you allow notifications.

When you open an event and notifications are off, the app shows a sheet with a list of what you get alerted about. Select Enable notifications, or Not now to be asked again after 3 days.

Mute one conversation

Press and hold a chat in Chats (right-click in the web app on a wide window) and select Hide & Mute. The chat moves to the Hidden filter and stops push notifications for that meeting and its messages. Emails are still sent. Select Unhide & Unmute to turn them back on.

Good to know

  • For a chat request, you get one push notification for the first message. Further messages from the same person do not send a push until you reply.

  • The 5-minute reminder is only sent for meetings with a time slot.

  • A participant who was added by the organizer and has not joined the app gets the reminder as an email with the subject "Your virtual meeting with <name>".

  • If every table was taken when your request was accepted, the email subject is "Set up a location for your meeting!".

  • Emails are not sent to accounts that unsubscribed from Brella emails.

  • You get no push notifications or emails from a person you blocked. Group meetings are not affected.

  • The organizer can send you a reminder about requests you have not answered: an email and a push notification "You have unread notifications. Make sure you don't miss any meetings!".

Troubleshooting

You are not receiving notifications (shown on the Account screen)
Notifications are off. Open Notifications and select Enable, or turn on Subscribe to notifications.

Enable does nothing on the web app
The browser has blocked notifications for the web app. Allow them in the browser's site settings and reload.

You see the badge but got no push
Check Account > Notifications > Show status. If isSubscribed is false, select Enable or turn on Subscribe to notifications.
